Historicly, sesame oil is the oldest oil in the world. The sesame plant is cultivated primarily in Sudan, Mexico, India, China and Burma. Since the seed capsules with 70-100 seeds do not ripen at the same time, the harvest is mainly by hand, the plants are cut, placed and shaken to dry. Sesame oil has a long tradition as a massage oil and is used internally and externally as part of detox. By its content of lecithin and other unsaponifiable matter it penetrates well into the skin. It is an excellent carrier oil for agents and can by its content of phytosterols and linoleic acid regenerate the lipid layers of the stratum corneum.
